Red Rock Canyon Open Space
Quarry-scarred red rock, wide main trails and a lot of optional side loops — the middle ground between a park walk and a real hike.
The main valley trail is broad and gently uphill; the loops off it climb quickly. That combination makes it easy to match a day when you feel strong and a day when you don't.
It is a good place to learn what 'moderate' means for your own body at altitude before committing to a bigger objective.
Shade is limited. Sun protection is not optional here between May and September.
